Alcazar Theatre

The Alcazar Theatre's origins date back to the Trianon Palace and is to be found on Alcala street.

It was built according to plans drawn up by Eduardo Sánchez Eznarriaga who died before his work was completed. The Alkazar Theatre (called so until 1940 when the pro- Franco regime banned all foreign sounding names) was opened on the 27th January, 1925 representing Madame Pompadour. It was intially to be called the Amusement Palace since it was to cater for a variety of leisure pursuits. However, legal restrictions meant it was reduced to being simply a theatre. It also doubled up as a cinema at the beginnnig of the 30s being one of the first cinemas to project films with sound.

It has an impressive facade restored in 2004 as well as a beautiful interior. At present it has a capacity for 800 people. A large part of its history has been bound up with variety shows and above all the star Celia Gámez.
